I am asked on a weekly basis about my thoughts on the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, so I figured I might as well put together an Institute for Integrative Nutrition FAQ.

Did you go to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition?

(From here on out, I will refer to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as IIN.)

Yes, I went to IIN.

I began in 2011, and I graduated in 2012.

And you can see that HERE.

Why did you choose IIN over other nutrition programs?

I chose IIN because I could do it online (I was working full time at an agency at the time).

I also chose it because, while I knew a lot about nutrition, I didn’t know a lot about how other pieces to lifestyle could and do affect us. Upon reviewing the curriculum, I felt confident that it would be a great program.

And finally, I chose it because it was financially reasonable.

What exactly is IIN?

IIN is the largest nutrition school in the world offering a cutting-edge online training program geared toward people looking to improve their eating habits and live healthier lives, as well as people who are passionate about wellness and looking to launch a new career as a Health Coach.

The school was founded by Joshua Rosenthal with the belief that food changes everything, and that through holistic education and Health Coaches, we can make the world a healthier, happier place.

IIN is a comprehensive online program that teaches the exploration of holistic health and healing concepts, as well as skills to help others achieve a balanced diet and lifestyle.

This entails courses in a variety of dietary theories and non-dietary sources of nourishment, as well as coaching skills and business/marketing training so that you can work as a Health Coach if you choose to follow your passion for wellness professionally.

With their flagship program, The Health Coach Training Program™, you will reframe what you know about health and wellness to live a fulfilling life in this comprehensive, integrated and dynamic program that includes content and activities related to holistic nutrition and lifestyle.

What did you study while at IIN?

(View the Flagship course IIN curriculum.)

I studied food and diet.

As it relates to diet, we learned 100 different dietary theories, literally, from the traditional to the modern, Eastern to Western, popular to esoteric.

But it was SO MUCH more than diet.

I also had the chance to study why and how other lifestyle factors directly impact our lives (stress, sleep, spirituality, relationships, etc.).

The school helped me become immersed in the concept of bio-individuality, which states that we are all different and that one “plan” or course of action will not work for everyone.

I was able to listen and learn from some of the most well-known and respected professionals in the field of health and wellness, including Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, Geneen Roth, Lissa Rankin and many more inspiring doctors, authors, and researchers who are leading the global shift towards holistic health.

Are you a Nutritionist once you complete the program?

No!

You will become a Certified Health Coach (CHC), which is someone who helps guide and support clients in integrating a healthy diet and lifestyle.

However, The Health Coach Training Program is recognized by the below organizations, colleges, and universities:

  • National College Credit Recognition Service (NCCRS)
  • Maryland University for Integrative Health (MUIH)
  • California Institute for Integrative Studies (CIIS)
  • Excelsior University
  • Goddard College
  • UK Level 4 Recognition

IIN is also affiliated with one of the largest university systems in the United States – The State University of New York (SUNY) – as well as other institutions that accept IIN’s Health Coach Training Program to be applied towards relevant degree programs.

They have earned recognition by many organizations that allow graduates of IIN to apply for membership.

Finally, IIN is recognized by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as an Approved Continuing Education Provider.

The Health Coach Training program is eligible for 1.9 NASM / 15 AFAA CEUs.

What did you like about IIN?

I liked that it was online and that it was convenient to me 24/7 to learn and have access to more materials than I could have ever possibly had time to engage with.

The online forums and networking the school provides is great!

I appreciated learning about healing from a holistic viewpoint, and was grateful to learn so many different dietary theories (even though many I would never prescribe to, but again, bio-individuality).

During my time at IIN, the one MAJOR thing that stands out to me for having the most impact on my own gut-healing journey was the massive emphasis on lifestyle.

Upon graduating, it not only became the 3rd pillar in my 3 Pillars to Ultimate Gut Healing, but I firmly believe it’s the MOST important pillar that has had me to continue to thrive with ZERO gut issues.

And p.s. in the beginning of my journey, I was diagnosed with ALL OF THESE!

What did you not like about IIN?

For me, the only thing I didn’t care a ton for was all the extra attention around coaching and building a business.

I have spent the past 10 years in business, and I already had an established blog and platform.

In fact, I even teach how you can find your own health coaching niche and start your own online health coaching business via a blog HERE.

So for me, it definitely wasn’t worth my time and energy to focus on that.

That said, for most people, this is likely not the case, and in that case, the school does a great job with helping in that area.

What does a Certified Health Coach Do agutysgirl.com

What do people do after they graduate from IIN?

The great thing about being a certified Health Coach is that the possibilities for success are limitless.

Here are just some of the ways IIN graduates are applying their education:

  • private coaching
  • public speaking
  • corporate wellness
  • doctor’s offices
  • spas, yoga studios, wellness centers
  • school initiatives
  • online programs
  • cooking and catering
  • restaurants
  • healthy product development
  • government policy

The school states that 74% of students launch a health coaching practice before they graduate from IIN.

Of those students, 48% charge $100/hour or more for their health coaching services.

What did you do with your certificate after you graduated?

I solely did private health coaching for quite some time, but I have grown so much since then.

Today, I primarily teach and educate via this website, A Gutsy Girl, the YouTube Channel, podcast, my books and e-books, main course – Quick Gut Detox – and, of course, I even launched my own Gut Health Supplement Line, Gutbyo[me].

Perhaps the most important thing I did was applied what I had learned at school on and for myself.

I don’t think I really understood while attending, but after being diagnosed with Adrenal Fatigue in 2014, I began to 100% immerse myself in the things I learned.

This is also one of the best things about the school — your own life will vastly improve!

Honestly – your options are endless!

Can my IIN certificate help me further my education?

Yes!

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition has educational agreements with Maryland University of Integrative Health, SUNY Purchase and Excelsior College for graduates who wish to continue their education to achieve a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
