You need this Essential Oil DIY Body Scrub Recipe in your life to start the week fresh.

According to Google searches (which obviously reigns supreme above all other research methods 🙂 ) “self care” is a hot topic currently.

At Home Pamper

In 7 Ways To Indulge Yourself Without Breaking The Budget via Forbes, number 6 is “pamper yourself.”

And here are the ideas Forbes gives towards pampering at home:

  • Experimenting with a new hair color with an at-home dye kit
  • Trying some new makeup, skin care treatments or other personal care products and applying them yourself at home
  • Getting a new electric toothbrush to help your teeth feel like you just got out of the dentist’s chair
  • Taking a relaxing spa-style bath in your own home, complete with candles and lighting
  • Getting some sparkling wine and fancy chocolates, then having a relaxing dessert with your spouse or roommate

And, in fact, I just did a little (facial) DIY spa a few nights ago. Here is exactly what I did:

  1. Charcoal mask
  2. Washed it off with warm water and Cleansing Balm
  3. Vitamin C Serum – ps. However, the night routine should actually be the Overnight Resurfacing Peel vs. the Vitamin C Serum (which is for morning).
  4. Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream
  5. …..to bed for all those zzzzzz’s

But let’s just say you would rather dabble in some DIY body or personal care items. If so, I have the perfect recipe for you to try today.

It’s the Essential Oil DIY Body Scrub Recipe, and I know how to do it so well because many years ago already I created a Peppermint Body Scrub that was incredible!

This recipe is based off that one.

In order to make this recipe, you’ll need 6 or less ingredients. Seriously. That’s it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon Organic Liquid Coconut Oil (Note: I have linked to many options here, but when I originally made this recipe, Nutiva’s was used.)
  • 1/2 tablespoon Jojoba oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 8 drops essential oil of choice (I used THIS brand)

Optional: 1 packet natural food coloring (I like Color Kitchen Foods) The reason you would use this is purely for aesthetics and/or gifting. When I originally made this recipe, it was Peppermint flavored. Therefore, I used the Color Kitchen Foods pink. You’ll also find the following colors HERE: blue, pink, yellow, orange, and green.

Directions

  1. Place sugar in a large bowl.
  2. Add liquid coconut oil, Jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, essential oil, and food coloring (if desired) to the bowl.
  3. Stir by hand until food coloring has been completely blended in.
  4. Place in an 8 oz jar, and store until you’re ready to use.

In addition to the minimal ingredients, you also only need a minimal amount of time; five minutes or less.

I made a video for the Peppermint version to show you just how easy it is.

Essential Oils?

Won’t lie. I’m super obsessed with EO’s (= essential oils).

If you’ve been hanging out around here for awhile with me, you know this obsession started awhile back.

Here is how it started….I got a diffuser for the kitchen, and paired it with a “cleansing” essential oil. Our whole family loved it. So then I got another, and another, another, and so on. I started replacing each and every single candle and wallflower in this house for diffusers and oils.

And today? There are currently somewhere between 17-20 diffusers spread about the house. I’m not even slightly exaggerating, and while it might seem excessive, it’s no different than all those candles and wallflowers people place throughout the house.

Except that it is different.

The scents, air “cleaners” and aromas that fill our house are plant-based, natural and in alignment with how I am choosing to live. The more lifestyle swaps I do, the better I feel. No joke.

Which Essential Oil to Use?

Alright, now this one is debatable. Like everything else these days – food, religion, politics, and even science – you’ll find someone who can provide “proof” on both sides of the coin.

So really, it comes down to the side of the coin you identify with most. I currently use just two brands:

  1. NOW Foods essential oils
  2. dōTERRA

But for this recipe today, I used dōTERRA because I just (and finally!) invested in the Healthy Essentials Kit. (Here are the oils from that kit that would be great for this body scrub: doTERRA Balance® Grounding Blend, Deep Blue® Soothing Blend, Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, or the doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend.)

Here’s why:

  1. I started using it back in 2014, and I loved it then. In fact, I even used to make my own Lemon Toothpaste with the dōTERRA® Lemon Essential Oil.
  2. Makenzie recorded an awesome podcast, and I learned even more about essential oils – dōTERRA in particular. You can listen to the episode – EVERYTHING You Want To Know About Essential Oils, feat. Casey Von Iderstein of Karmic Wellness – HERE.
  3. Many other holistic and natural healing friends swear by the brand. I asked many different people why they chose dōTERRA over others; gathered a ton of information.
  4. As I was making a new batch of my Branch Basics Foaming Hand Soap yesterday, I thought it might be interesting to see what would happen if I placed a few drops of the dōTERRA Citrus Bliss in the bottle. The result? Pure citrus-smelling bliss! And boom – naturally-scented, pure foaming hand soap ready to use.
  5. I love that you can trace back each and every single bottle purchased HERE to view GC/MS test results from an independent, verified third party lab.

Anyways, come shop with me at dōTERRA or choose another EO that works for you. Either way, you’re going to love this Essential Oil DIY Body Scrub.
