For some, swallowing supplements is not an option, so I wanted to share about how you can swap for a gut healing powder.

Swallowing Pills, Tablets, and Capsules

When I was little, I would never swallow a prescription medication. Getting me to do so was like pulling teeth. For me personally it was simply the fear of swallowing and ultimately of choking.

I no longer have this fear, but even still – when given the choice, I will always stick to the powder form of anything.

Here is a list of reasons for why you, too, might not be able to swallow those pills, tablets, and capsules:

  1. Fear of choking
  2. A dislike for pills
  3. Problems with the mechanics of swallowing
  4. A temporary condition that makes it hard to swallow, such as taking antibiotics or going through chemotherapy
  5. General swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) – for example, due to a condition such as a stroke
  6. Dry mouth

No matter the reason, one thing is certain: you are still trying to heal your gut, aiming for a healthy gut.

Which is why, a gut healing powder might be the best option for your overall health.

Gut Healing Powder with A Gutsy Girl agutsygirl.com

Because I know the value in using powders for digestive health, we came out with a bundle dedicated to the gut lining: the Gut Lining Bundle.

However, this bundle is leaving the supplement line at Gutbyo[me].

To our main FAQ, we recently addressed this question: Why do you sometimes add new supplements to the lineup and/or remove others?

Here’s the answer:

It’s simple. My goal is to provide YOU with the best. And every single day I’m learning and exploring more in the supplement realm.

If and when I find something new and unique that I can bring to the community, I’ll add it.

Likewise, if I find something on the market that already exists and is better than what I can provide you from a quality and pricing standpoint, then I’ll drop it from my line and share what the replacement is that you can get.

For example, we just did this with Gut Support, which was our L-Glutamine. I am a firm believer in the power of using L-Glutamine for healing and sealing the gut lining. I’ve taken it since my early days of healing.

Our L-Glutamine, Gut Support, provided 3 g of glutamine per serving. And the best price I could get it at (with the limited quantities I order) was $44.99 for an 8.8oz container.

Well, Naked Nutrition’s L-Glutamine is the same, super-high quality glutamine but it contains 5 g of glutamine per serving and $34.99 for 2.2 pounds.

Therefore, we discontinued ours so you can get the Naked Nutrition L-Glutamine.

And to that extent, we will be doing the same with Re-Build, which is our collagen powder.

Therefore, the Ultimate Gut Lining Bundle will be gone.

BUT…..

I still firmly stand behind the power in gut repair powder.

As such, I wanted to put together this list of my favorite GI health supplements, in powder form.

11 Best Powders for the GI Tract

Here are what I believe they are:

  1. Tummy Soothe, powder for the immune system
  2. Leaky Gut Supplements in powder form:
    1. L-glutamine
    2. Probiotics
    3. Collagen
    4. Leaky Gut Revive
    5. Glutagenics Powder
  3. Marshmallow Root
  4. Zinc carnosine
  5. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (licorice root)
  6. Greens powder
  7. Naked Gut
11 best gut health powders for the GI tract agutsygirl.com

I’m not just here to give you a list of each gut powder, but instead, I want to share more about each of them and why they are beneficial for the intestinal tract.

Ready?

Tummy Soothe

This supplement is sort of a leaky gut supplement hack that not many know about and/or use.

But I’m so confident in it that I formulated my own for the Gutsy community.

I had so much success with the Just Thrive Ultimate IgG that I wanted to elevate that product and make it my own.

So I did.

But first, why IgG?

Let’s break it down.

IgG is an antibody – a protective protein that your immune system produces when it senses an invader. And bacterial inflammation is known to be one of the main causes for leaky gut symptoms.

Therefore, when IgG is adequate, they have the capability to “catch the invaders,” i.e bind to them so they can’t escape.

Furthermore, if you remember from IgE vs IgG:

IgG is always there to help prevent infections.

It’s also ready to multiply and attack when foreign substances get into the body.

When you don’t have enough, you are more likely to get infections. (source)

Tummy Soothe, the product we brought to the marketplace supports the structure of the cells of the intestinal lining and helps with the intestinal barrier.

As I previously mentioned, up until now, I have always talked about and promoted the Just Thrive IGG, so here are the added benefits with Tummy Soothe:

  • Tummy Soothe has a higher dose of ImmunoLin®
  • The Tummy Soothe comes as a powder vs. pill so it’s easier dosing
  • Tummy Soothe has an added NAD Glucosamine benefit (protects cellular health + improves energy levels)
  • The Tummy Soothe formula is a premier practitioner grade

What is ImmunoLin®?

ImmunoLin® (SBI concentrate) is a proprietary, protein‐based dietary supplement containing more than 50% immunoglobulins to help support digestive function and promote a healthy mucosal immune system.

It boasts the following benefits:

  • Supports gut health
  • Supports GI mucosal health
  • Supports gut and systemic immune function
  • Supports GI barrier integrity

What is NAD?

N‐Acetyl‐D‐Glucosamine (NAG) helps support immune function and mucosal health and reduces intestinal permeability.

N-Acetyl glucosamine supports immune function and promotes a healthy inflammatory response by potentially reducing the excess activation of T‐cells, natural killer cells, and dendritic cells.

Studies have also demonstrated the potential for NAG to support the release of acid mucopolysaccharides by fibroblasts and help restore the protective structures in the GI tract.

It may also help to restore the integrity and function of the mucous membrane. This may help support GI conditions such as IBD. (source)

In one study, 34 participants with IBD took 2 g of NAG three times per day for 4 weeks. The study results indicated an improvement in self‐reported IBD symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, the passage of mucus, nausea, and rectal bleeding. (source)

I LOVE this supplement so much, and take it every single day.

It’s super easy to add to any food and/or beverage, as it’s flavorless.

p.s. Tummy Soothe is the best, so this one will not leave the Gutbyo[me] supplement line.

L-Glutamine

L-glutamine, in my opinion, is a staple for those healing leaky gut syndrome.

Glutamine is an essential amino acid that is anti-inflammatory and necessary for the growth and repair of your intestinal lining – sealing up to make those tight junctions.

L-glutamine acts a protector and coats your cell walls, acting as a repellent to irritants.

L-glutamine is the most plentiful amino acid in the body and supports intestinal health.

It may work for those with irritable bowel syndrome because of this role. (source)

I have always taken L-glutamine in powder form, which is why we originally came out with our own. As I mentioned in the beginning of this article, though, we are discontinuing it as I feel you are better off choosing the Naked Nutrition L-Glutamine.

The best bang for the buck.

Probiotics

Probiotics for the intestinal wall and overall gut microbiome health are critical.

They help achieve optimal gut health by restoring beneficial bacteria that have been depleted.

However, when choosing the right probiotic supplement, here are three things to consider:

  1. Research: Is there research to back up the probiotic strain and species; overall efficacy?
  2. Trust: Do you trust the brand? Go beyond the probiotics labels with all their fancy marketing.
  3. Next generation thinking: Is the manufacturer going beyond the basics of commonly used strains and species? Is there something/anything unique?

And here’s a secret: the probiotic I use, love, and trust is the Just Thrive Health probiotic, but it actually comes in capsule vs powder form.

That being said, one of the greatest benefits for using this probiotic is that it can be opened up and the capsule contents (flavorless) can be added to anything. Plus, it has 1000x better survivability vs. leading probiotics.

AND, you can even freeze it… Or bake it up to 455 degrees without losing potency! [Actually! Add it to my Almond and Poppy Seed Sheet Cake.]

Collagen

Collagen plays a major role in leaky gut repair, which is why bone broth is almost always recommended.

It is made up of 19 different amino acids; non-essential and essential amino acids.

Collagen constitutes:

  • 75% of skin
  • 70% of ligaments
  • 65% to 80% of tendons
  • 50% of cartilage
  • 30% of tooth dentin
  • 16% of bone
  • 10% to 11% of muscle
  • ++ is also part of the structure of arteries and veins

Furthermore, Dr. Amy Myers states,

Collagen is beneficial to gut health because it contains large amounts of amino acids, glycine, glutamine, and proline which support a healthy bacterial balance in your gut microbiome and facilitates a healthy gut barrier.

She continues on with,

Collagen also contains nonessential amino acids, which are ones your body can make on its own. Three of the nonessential amino acids in collagen – glycine, glutamine, and proline – are considered conditional amino acids. Conditional amino acids are ones that become essential in times of illness or stress.5 That’s why it’s so important to supplement collagen as you get older or have an autoimmune disorder. Glycine, glutamine, and proline are also essential for a healthy gut.

As I already mentioned, we are discontinuing the collagen from Gutbyo[me], but I have curated a couple favorites through my Fullscript Online Dispensary for you (under “Favorite Powders”).

Also, the Naked Nutrition one is fantastic!

This is a formula created by Amy Myers MD®. It is a cutting-edge blend of amino acids and botanicals to help regenerate healthy intestinal cells and restore the digestive tract’s mucosal lining

Glutagenics Powder

The supplement features 3 key ingredients—glutamine, deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), and aloe vera leaf extract gel.

Its purpose is to support the intestinal lining for healthy digestion, healthy immune function, and overall health.

I used the Glutagenics powder, and if you want to learn more about it + purchase, you’ll find it for cheaper via my Fullscript dispensary HERE (yes, my Fullscript dispensary is cheaper and more credible than Amazon for supplements!)

Marshmallow Root

Dr. Josh Axe states,

Marshmallow helps restore integrity of the gut lining by forming a protective layer around small junctions. In addition, it seems to be beneficial for people suffering from other forms of inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

Marshmallow Root is usually found in powder form via a powder that contains other gut-healing properties. For example, you’ll find it in the Leaky Gut Revive listed above. It’s also in G.I. Fortify from Pure Encapsulations.

In G.I. Fortify, you’re getting Marshmallow Root and also:

  • Arjuna Extra
  • DGL
  • Psyllium Husk Powder
  • Aloe Vera Extract
  • Ulmus Fulva
  • L-Glutamine
  • Flax Powder

Zinc carnosine

Zinc is known as an essential nutrient, meaning that the body can not produce it on its own. The zinc levels in our body are based purely on the zinc we consume through either food sources or dietary supplementation.

Zinc has SO many functions across the human body including:

  • aids in over 300 enzymatic reactions
  • synthesis of immune cells
  • support of immune function
  • protein synthesis
  • support of skin health
  • HUGE player in cell growth
  • supports both smell and taste
  • maintenance of testosterone levels
  • wound healing
  • DNA synthesis- provides blueprint for all functions in the body

As you can see, zinc has a wide range of physiological processes across the digestive, immune, and metabolic systems. It plays a crucial role in both the immune and digestive systems, which are important for keeping the gut in balance.

Source: HERE

This mineral is known for its ability to boost the immune system and help tighten the junctions of the intestinal lining.

Zinc supplementation tightens “leaky gut” in Crohn’s disease.

Zinc deficiency can arise from several sources, and a major physiological effect of zinc deficiency will be to induce leakiness in tight junctional seals and consequently epithelial cell layers. (source)

When thinking of incorporating a zinc powder into your supplement routine, like others on this list, it’s likely going to be in combination with other ingredients in one gut health formula.

Contains: Zinc + Zinc L-Carnosine

GI Repair Powder agutsygirl.com

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (licorice root)

Dr. Amy Myers states,

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) helps your body repair your gut lining by replenishing the mucus that creates a healthy intestinal barrier.

There are a ton of high-quality DGL options via my Fullscript dispensary HERE.

Greens powder

Not everyone is a fan of a high-quality greens powder, but many love incorporating it for additional nutritional support.

So, why supergreens for the gut? Here are 4 sound reasons.

  1. A critical discovery suggests that leafy greens are essential for feeding good gut bacteria, limiting the ability of bad bacteria to colonize the gut by shutting them out of the prime ‘real estate.’ (source)
  2. Fiber, fiber, and more fiber to both clear waste through the digestive tract and also to feed the good bacteria.
  3. Fights bloat. “Potassium, a mineral and electrolyte found in abundance in greens, is essential to keep an optimal fluid balance in your body.” (source)
  4. Supports optimal gut health. “A recently discovered gene known as T-bet that gets switched on by cruciferous veggies such as broccoli or Brussels sprouts instructs precursor cells in your intestinal lining to produce innate lymphoid cells (ILCs). ILCs protect your body against gut infections and inflammation, control food allergies and intolerances, support a healthy immune response, and seal the leaks in your gut.” (source from #3)

There are so many on the market these days. The best way to choose which one is for you is simply by doing a little research.
