I want to share 5 morning power-up rituals you’ll find me doing on any given day.
I love the morning hours; always have, and probably always will.
The morning is the best time to set a tone for the day ahead – mentally and physically.
And actually, I believe this now even more that I’m healed than I did while going through intense gut-healing. The reason is simple.
You know what I’m talking about when I say this – I used to wake up, have a bite of anything and seemingly feel 9 months pregnant already. Been there, too?
Honestly, there were many reasons for that, but I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that instead of listening to my body upon rising, I forced it into the things I thought it should do. You know, like run 8 miles, eat breakfast, power through work. Things like that.
Don’t get me wrong, you can do any of those things. You might not be able to do them all right now, or they simply might not be serving you at this point on your journey.
Anyways, today, I want to share 5 morning power-up rituals I do on any given day.

Warm water and lemon
Hydration is critical for digestion, but there is a soothing element with warm water and lemon. For optimal digestion, I drink this beverage a lot. Doing so in the morning can set you up for a day full of proper digestion.

Silence and deep breathing
With so much noise constantly surrounding me, I love to sit in complete silence for a while each morning. Getting up early allows me this time where the only thing I have to focus on is the silence and the sound of my own deep, breathing. I like to inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, and then exhale for a final 4 counts.

Journaling and creating a plan for the day
Over the years, I have kept every single type of journal imaginable. I have kept one-liner gratitude journals, gut healing journals, long-form writing journals, and more. The best journaling I do first thing in the morning these days sort of combines them all, along with writing out my “top 3.” The top 3 are those 3 things that I absolutely must accomplish during the day ahead. They can be simple, “Call Mom,” or more involved, “Finish presentation.”

Short workout
I used to workout for hours on end. I no longer do because I don’t believe it’s optimal for gut and overall health. The best way I start my days is when I get a 20-30-minute workout in. These are typically bodyweight workouts or lifting weights. I also enjoy a simple walk outside. I have found that less, but consistent, (workout) is truly more.

Breaking the fast
Part of healing my gut included strengthening the MMC (migrating motor complex) and allowing my body to have a full rest and digest before eating again. Therefore, I don’t break my fast (aka breakfast) until about 7-9am daily, which allows for a 12-15 hour fast. When I do break the fast, I eat a lot and a huge variety of foods to set me up for the day ahead.
And there you have it.
I hope you saw something on my list that you can take to apply for your own morning ritual starting tomorrow!

Thanks for sharing the tips. I follow some of this rituals like drinking water and short workout. I also meditate in the morning which helps me to stay focused and start my day on a positive note.
Love it! And yes to the meditation as well.
