Now, I’m not talking about a traditional detox program, detox diet, some sort of pills, laxatives, supplements “cleanse” or even a good old juice cleanse or some sort of celery juice fast.

Short term fixes won’t address long term health issues.

In fact, a short term fix might only make overall health worse.

Because gut health has become such a fad and synonymous with detox products, flat abs, weight loss, and diet plans galore, I believe our outstanding health conditions are only going to rise.

I’m practical.

So if you told me to do any of the above, I’d laugh and walk away.

Therefore, I’d never ask you to engage in it either.

Also, when I healed my gut and healed my life, it certainly wasn’t with any of them. At all. Not even a little bit.

They run to Dr. Google, find some sort of detox, engage in activities not conducive for good health, only to find out there was a medical condition present all along. Do not do this. Now, before we continue on, let me give you 7 tips and tricks for a 30 day detox (following the template I teach in Gut Healing: ELEVATED):

  1. Whenever you do any sort of “detox” – body, mind, or soul, your energy levels are likely to tank. This is why I always tell people to plan for nothing outside of the absolute musts during the first week.
  2. Do not be fat phobic. Healthy fats, like olive oil and avocados, are good and can actually be very healing.
  3. Some detox plans will tell you to drink senna leaf tea. Don’t do it! Your bowel movements can become dependent upon senna, and you do not want that for the long term.
  4. It’s less about removing entire food groups and more about eating whole foods, in their natural state. Ingredients vs. Ingredient(s) is key.
  5. Not everyone thrives off the same green smoothie. Because I am well aware of it, I broke down various greens {HERE} for you to consider.
  6. Liquid meals are not always the answer. In fact, I’d much rather choose intermittent fasting combined with healthy, whole food meals.
  7. There are definitely foods to avoid during a first time detox of sorts: ice cream, cookies, cakes, candy, ultra processed foods — really anything that comes in a package and/or contains more than 3 ingredients and/or has an ingredient you cannot pronounce.

The best parts of making a 30 day commitment to yourself are:

  1. Your digestive tract will either start making more sense to you and/or start feeling better, and
  2. Immune function gets better

I cannot stress either enough, and that’s because 70-90% of the immune system lies within the gut.
