Well it’s Halloween time again so my best contribution this year is by giving you 5 Halloween treats with 5 ingredients or less.
Now, here’s the deal, I don’t care what anyone says.
When all the Halloween candy is around the office or in your kid’s Halloween buckets, you will dig in. Do not deny it and do not try to fight it. That battle is not worth it.
Instead of fighting the battle, I want to first start off by giving you 3 practical ways to approach Halloween treats.
3 Practical Ways to Approach Halloween Treats {for the Gutsy Girl}
-
Just eat the candy already
The more you tell yourself “no” (for any reason other than a true medical condition – i.e. gluten, peanuts, etc.), the more you’re going to want that candy. And then the binges start. Been there, done that. Never again.
-
Eat the candy, then be a giver
I’m sure you know this already, but in case you don’t, you can ship your extra Halloween candy to our troops. There are many organizations which now participate in this giving action. You can simply Google, “donate leftover Halloween candy to American troops.” You get some, you give some.

Choose the least of the “evils”
“Evils” is in quotation marks because I don’t actually or necessarily think any food is evil. I do, however, think some foods can be evil for certain people. For instance, if you have a true allergy to peanuts then PB Cups (“healthy” or not) are evil for you. So, know yourself (I mean, have you been tracking in your 90-day gut healing journal?!?!?) and then choose the candy which is least evil for you.
But let’s say that you are in a period of some deep healing. If you choose not to eat all the candy because it both makes you feel awful and is super hard to track all those ingredients vs ingredient(s), then that’s your choice.
In that case, let me help by sharing with you 5 Halloween treats with 5 ingredients or less. These options will be far easier to track and also more likely to be gentler on your stomach.

Now for the record, I said “treats,” not (necessarily) candy.
3 of the below you can buy, and 2 you will need to make.
-
70%+ cacao dark chocolate bar
I don’t know about you, but a high-quality chocolate bar is something that just can’t be matched. With a deep level of simplicity, this is a treat that cannot be ignored. The secret is to find high-quality, 70%+ cacao dark chocolate. The ingredients should be 5 or less. They typically look something like this: cacao, coconut sugar, and cocoa butter. And yes, that’s real. The product does exist!
-
Ginger chews
Ginger chews typically contain just three ingredients: cane sugar, ginger, and tapioca starch. In fact, the Peanut Butter Ginger Chews I love still have less than 5 ingredients (all of the above + peanut butter). These candy chews are so good, and ginger is a warming herb that’s naturally good for digestion.
In addition to eating the chew as-is, you can also make a delicious tea with just the chews and hot water. Simply boil your water, then add 2-3 ginger chews to a cup. Allow the chews to melt and enjoy!

Natural, organic hard candies
I won’t pretend that these are easy to find. They aren’t. But if you enjoy eating simple, fruity, hard candies, you can find them with just 5 ingredients or less. Fruity candy typically contains food-color dyes. If you can find natural, organic hard candies, you’ll be safe from them. One of my favorite hard candies out there contains just 4 ingredients: sugar, rice syrup, citric acid, and natural flavors.

Honey Roasted Peanut Butter
Like a Reese’s PB cup only without the chocolate (which you could easily mesh with #1 from above!) I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the PB company I used to own, A Loving Spoon nut butters. It’s not that I’m wondering so much about, “what if…..” but more so along the lines of, “I miss creating the best dessert nut butters ever.” I was constantly creating delicious dessert nut butter concoctions which were always dairy and gluten free.
Anyways, my Honey Roasted Peanut Butter recipe contains just 3 ingredients. It was so good that the San Francisco Airport sold it in one of their shops. When I ended the business, I gave the recipe. You’ll find it HERE. And yes, just three ingredients.
It’s super hard to come across candy with 5-ingredients or less.
And honestly, you don’t need to spend your time spinning wheels trying to find it.
Do what you can with what you have, and never attach stress or guilt to it.
