Sharing this with you today could cannibalize my own gut healing journaling system. That’s the actual risk I’m taking by writing this post.
So when I tell you Gutsy is incredible, believe me. This app can replace my own journaling system, for most of you, for most of what you need.
For years, people have asked me the same question: “Can you turn your journaling system into an app?”
I wanted to. Always wanted to. I built that system by hand, through years of trial and error with my own recurring SIBO, because nothing else was giving me a straight answer about what was actually triggering my symptoms. I just never had the bandwidth to build the app version myself.
Then a few weeks ago, I got an email from a woman named Anisha.
“First of all, as someone who’s been suffering from IBS-C for 10+ years I really appreciate the content and knowledge you’re sharing on Instagram!
Personally, I only overcame my issues by logging my food, supplements, and stool daily to find my triggers. Logging helped me discover that Advil had been causing sores to form all over my body and in my mouth for over a year.
Once I realized the power of logging, I started telling everyone to do it, but obviously no one did because it’s such a tedious, painful process. So my husband and I built Gutsy, an app that makes logging easy and uses AI to find your gut triggers.
Gutsy has been live on the App Store for 6 weeks and already has about 1,000 downloads with no marketing.”
I get emails like this constantly. People wanting to partner, wanting me to try their product, wanting a mention.
I look at almost all of them. I say yes to almost none of them. Especially if it’s something that could take the place of something I built myself, by hand, out of my own healing.
But this one was worth it. Here’s why.
The part that still gets me: the app is called Gutsy. Not “the A Gutsy Girl app.” Not a licensing deal, not a collab we planned out. Just Gutsy. Anisha and I had no idea about each other before her email landed in my inbox. She built an app called Gutsy. I built a brand called A Gutsy Girl. Neither of us knew the other existed.
Same word. Same fight. Zero coordination.

Quick answer
Gutsy is an AI app that tracks your food, symptoms, and stool to find your personal IBS and FODMAP triggers, using your own gut transit time instead of guessing from your last meal. It’s free to download (iPhone only), with Premium unlocking AI trigger detection starting at $135/year with code AGUTSYGIRL.

But first, what is Gutsy?
Gutsy is a FODMAP and symptom tracking app built specifically for IBS. It logs your food, stool, supplements, stress, and sleep, then uses AI to connect the dots between what you ate and how you felt.
It’s on the App Store now, iPhone only, iOS 18 or later, built by Sudjeev Singh (Anisha’s husband). It already carries a 5.0 rating across its first 21 reviews.
Here’s the part that made me pay attention. Gutsy doesn’t assume your last meal caused your symptoms. Most trackers do. You log a bad afternoon, you scroll back to lunch, you blame lunch.
Food doesn’t move that fast. Whole gut transit time, the time it takes food to travel from your mouth to the toilet, normally runs anywhere from 10 to 73 hours in a healthy person, per research published in the Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (source). And that range is different for every person.
So the food behind your 3pm bloat might not be lunch. It might be Tuesday’s dinner.
I’ve said this for years in my own method: you have to track for pattern, not for proximity.
“You have to track for pattern, not proximity.”
Gutsy builds that principle into the algorithm itself.
It learns your personal transit time from your logs, then links each symptom back to the meal actually responsible, not just the one you ate an hour before you felt bad.
That’s the whole reason most food-symptom tracking fails. People blame the wrong meal, get discouraged, and quit before the pattern ever shows up.

What Gutsy actually does
AI trigger detection
Gutsy analyzes your entries across a 48-hour symptom window, not just the meal right before a flare. It surfaces your most likely trigger foods with a confidence level attached, plus which symptoms each food tends to bring on for you specifically.
This matters because food-related symptoms are the norm in IBS, not the exception. One large cohort study found that roughly 70% of people with IBS report symptoms tied directly to what they ate (source). The problem was never that food mattered. The problem was that no one had a fast enough way to prove which food.
Gutsy AI, a chat that actually knows your data
You can ask it things like “why did I feel terrible after lunch?” or “is oat milk safe for me?” It answers from your last 7 days of meals, symptoms, stool, sleep, and heart rate. Not generic internet advice. Your data.
Snap a photo, skip the database search
Most food trackers make you search a database for every ingredient. Gutsy skips that. Snap a photo and it identifies what’s on your plate, classifies it by FODMAP group, estimates your portion, and scores the inflammatory load, all from one picture.
Everything else logs in seconds
Symptoms, stool (Bristol Stool Scale, types 1 through 7), water, supplements, stress, and mood. Barcode scanning has FODMAP classification built in, so packaged food doesn’t slow you down either.
A report your doctor will actually read
One tap generates a full PDF: symptom breakdown, FODMAP analysis, stool patterns, the whole picture. It also syncs with Apple Health, layering your heart rate, HRV, sleep, and steps into the same pattern-finding. Gut symptoms rarely happen in a vacuum. Stress and sleep are part of the story too.
Your data stays on your device. Always.
This matters more than people think. You’re logging intimate stuff, your stool, your symptoms, your meals, and Gutsy keeps it local. Not sold, not shared, not scraped for ad targeting.

Still being actively built, not launched and abandoned
Gutsy is on version 3.5 as of this month. In the last update alone, they shipped a rebuilt profile tab and a “Trigger Watchlist” that tells you how often a rough day followed a specific food compared to your own normal (their example: “Apple: 2.1x the symptoms”).
For a brand-new app, that pace matters. This isn’t a team that shipped once and walked away.
The early reviews back it up. One user said the app flagged a daily protein bar and onions as real triggers she never would have found on her own. Another canceled her nutritionist appointments after the AI chat started giving her more specific answers than her provider had.
Tracking your Gutbyome supplements inside Gutsy
Gutsy’s supplement log isn’t locked to a preset list. You can add your own, which means you can track your entire Gutbyo[me] routine right alongside your food and symptoms, and actually see whether it’s helping.
| Supplement | Log it against | Watch for |
| Break Down | Meals higher in fat | Bloating, post-meal discomfort |
| Increase Now | Bristol Scale entries | Changes in stool consistency |
| Move Now | Nights with constipation | Next-morning stool entry |
Betaine HCl (Increase Now) isn’t right for everyone. Skip it if you have ulcers or active gastritis, and work with your doctor if you’re on NSAIDs or steroids.
This doesn’t replace working with your doctor on dosing, but it does let you see, in your own data, whether a specific supplement is doing anything at all. Most people take supplements on faith. This gives you proof.
Using Gutsy and a physical journal together
You don’t have to choose one or the other.
There’s real value in the tactile, physical process of writing things down by hand. It slows you down. It makes you actually look at what you ate instead of snapping and moving on.
But if the friction of paper logging has kept you from doing it consistently (and for most people, it has), Gutsy removes that friction. Log in seconds, let the AI find the pattern, and use your paper journal for the reflection piece: how you’re feeling, what’s changing, what you’re noticing about your body beyond the data points.
Use Gutsy to find the trigger. Use your journal to process what you do with that information.
Who this isn’t for (yet)
I want to be honest about the edges of this, the same way I am about everything else. It’s also not a diagnostic tool. It surfaces patterns and likely triggers, but it doesn’t replace a GI workup, and it isn’t built to manage conditions like Crohn’s or active SIBO on its own. Use it alongside your care team, not instead of them.
Is Gutsy right for you?
✓ You’ve tried logging before and couldn’t stick with it
✓ You have an iPhone (iOS 18+)
✓ You’re managing IBS, SIBO, Celiac, Crohn’s, or GERD
✗ You’re on Android
✗ You’re looking for a diagnostic tool instead of a doctor
✗ Your current logging system already works for you
If you already have a bulletproof logging system that works for you, you may not need to switch. This is for the people who know logging would help them and have never been able to stick with it long enough to see the pattern. That’s most of us.
How to get started
Gutsy is free to download, and the core tracking (food, stool, water, supplements, mood) is free to use. The AI layer (trigger detection, the chat, camera food analysis, the 6-week program, weekly reports) sits behind Gutsy Premium.
