Why a Gut Health Blog Is Talking About Skincare, Makeup, and Home Products

Sharing is caring!

If you’ve been around here lately, you’ve noticed some new topics.

Skincare. Makeup. Laundry detergent. Home products.

And maybe you’ve wondered what any of it has to do with your gut.

Fair question. Here’s my why.

1. There’s a gut connection in 99% of what I write

Everything filters through to the gut. Everything.

Your skin and your gut talk to each other constantly. It’s called the gut-skin axis, and research has shown a close, two-way connection between the gut and skin, with numerous studies linking GI health to skin health.1

The products in your home matter too.

Did you know triclosan, an antimicrobial chemical, has been added to more than 2,000 consumer products? It’s been found in hand soaps and toothpastes. And in one study, triclosan reduced the diversity of gut bacteria and changed its composition.2

Then there’s stress. There are more nerve cells in your gut than anywhere else in your body outside of your brain. That’s why a hard week can show up as a bloated belly.3

So when I write about a face stick or a laundry swap, there’s almost always a line straight back to your gut.

But even if there isn’t…

2. I ignored lifestyle for years, and it cost me

When I started A Gutsy Girl, I was sick.

My symptoms lived almost entirely in my gut. Bloating. Constipation. Pain.

So that’s where I put all my focus. Diet, meds, supplements. Repeat.

And it took me forever to heal.

Because I never focused on the lifestyle pieces.

Since healing, I’ve been adamant that gut healing is about more than diet, meds, and supplements.

So I’m sharing all of it now.

If you’re eating “perfectly,” taking the right supplements, and still bloated, your lifestyle could be the culprit. BTW – that’s also exactly why I created Gut Healing: ELEVATED.

3. In another life, I was a fashion blogger

I’ve always joked that in another life I’d be a fashion or Pinterest blogger. Although, let’s be honest. I really have no sense of [clothing] fashion 🙂

But something far sexier than Bristol Stool Charts and getting rid of the 9-month-pregnant bloat.

Some of my lifestyle products are finally letting me have a little of that. Like THIS.

And I’m having so much fun with it. Which, if you want the honest truth, is super important at this point in the lifecycle because I’ve been here writing about gut health since 2012.

4. I’m human

There are experts out there who focus on only ONE thing.

But honestly? So often I want to know more about them as people.

I’m fascinated by people’s actual lives.

If you’re a psychologist, you don’t spend your whole life studying the mind. If you’re a car mechanic, you don’t only work on cars.

And if you’re a healthy living advocate, you don’t only cook healthy food, study ingredients, and perfect the art of meditation.

What else do you do? Where do you travel? What do you read? What’s your personal hobby?

That’s interesting.

So you’ll get more of me here. The gut is still the heart of A Gutsy Girl, and that’s staying put. But I want you to know that while the gut is at the heart of everything in my entire life, it’s not my whole life. Nor do I want it to be.

We all need something else to focus on. Truthfully, had I done more of this on my healing journey, I would have healed far sooner. I mean, I’m thankful I didn’t because I learned and studied all these things so that I’d be able to help you in a fraction of the time.

But the time with chronic gut issues will pass anyways….you might as well have a little fun while you’re in the thick of it.

Tell me in the comments: what do you want to know about my life outside the gut stuff? What else is fun to read about and know about?

Xox,
