I was no stranger to Paleo, the GAPS diet, and SCD when I was diagnosed with SIBO. I also wasn’t completely a stranger to FODMAPS, but FODMAPS contain so many intricacies that I had to research, study, learn and apply in ways I never had before. Berry-licious Hemp Smoothie for 2 Raspberries

You are looking at the above foods and thinking, “But I thought asparagus, apples, garlic, dates, and avocado were good for me?”

For normal people with a thriving digestive tract, they are. But for many, they are not. “Any FODMAPs that are not absorbed in the small intestine pass into the large intestine, where bacteria ferment them. The resultant production of gas potentially results in bloating and flatulence.”

And this is, again, why your New Year’s Resolution might have left you more bloated than ever. Berry-licious Hemp Smoothie for 2 Blender + Ingredients

FODMAPs are tricky, but I created a New Year’s Smoothie for Nutiva to help us all get going in the best possible way.

Every single ingredient used is low FODMAP. I have even learned the detailed tricks and tips to living low FODMAP, which I took into consideration when making this smoothie. For example, the recipe calls for 2 heaping handfuls of fresh spinach. Berry-licious Hemp Smoothie for 2 Spinach

1 cup of fresh spinach is low FODMAP, but once you hit larger quantities (>2 3/4 cup), you then hit a territory which contains moderate amounts of the Oligos-fructans (oh-my-gosh-how-did-I-become-such-a-nerd?!) Updated in 2018 to add: Technically, this isn’t considered low-FODMAP any longer, but it can be. Make sure you use an unripe banana, only use 1/4 cup blueberries (unless you’re sure you only drink half of this smoothie), and no more than 30 raspberries. You can keep all the ingredients still, just make a few modifications.

      1. SCD does *not* specify why, though. And that’s just not good enough for me. A lot of the Hemp Protein Powders are made with ingredients that would not be SCD compliant. So in that case, those protein powders I would and do not use. I stick to the pure hemp oil and hempseed where the only ingredient is hemp.
      2. If what bothers you is the seed/nuts in general, then stick with hemp oil.
      3. Hemp is nutritionally dense and easily digested:
      4. Hemp is, for the most part, still widely not talked about and therefore neither GAPS nor SCD nor Paleo nor FODMAPS talk a ton about it. I believe it’s up to the individual to test it with their own unique situations.

As for me, hemp has done wonders! Sunday night we baked chicken covered in Nutiva’s Red Palm Oil and sprinkled with sea salt + Nutiva’s Hempseed. It was awesome:)
