I’ll tell you why Nia Shanks is my SHERO.
If there is one thing I don’t want anymore, it’s a life lived at the gym.
I always knew that once she came, my priorities would shift.
But by the same token, I have never believed in this “I’m a mom now and too busy to take care of myself” notion. I have yet to let this new crazy life I’m living affect the foods I feed my body and the time I make and take to move.
Both what I don’t want and what I do want are precisely the reasons that Nia Shanks is my (S)Hero.

No, that’s not my term….that’s hers. Meet Nia….
(I’ve added this tank to “Gifts for A Gutsy Girl: Holiday 2013.”)
I met Nia awhile back. Not in person, virtually, but fell madly in (S)Hero’ing with her.
One of my first encounters with her was, “My Battle with Disordered Eating and How I Got Over It.” My platform here is on the gut, infertility, eating, playing, loving and living our most inspiring lives. What I never talk about is my own ugly past with disordered eating. I related to Nia and so I continued following her.
Last January I did her 15 Week Muscle Sculpting Program. Loved it.
And recently, when I got injured, I began her Beautiful Badass Bodyweight Workout Program, which brings me right to the current reason Nia Shanks is my (S)Hero.
I already mentioned above, but I have never believed in this “I’m a mom now and too busy to take care of myself” notion. Clearly, Nia doesn’t either, since she creates workout programs that allow you to reap the benefits of moving without expecting two hours in the gym a day.
Since I’m also still injured, this was the perfect program, as Nia created it when she was injured.
The workout is, you guessed it, body weight, so in theory, you don’t even need to go to the gym. {Note: I do believe you’d probably need to have a pull-up bar at home if you intend to do it at home.}
There are (two) workout programs included in the entire program. The first is an 8-week “strength” program and the second is a 12-week “fat loss” program.
I chose to start with the 8-week program through the New Year and then will jump to the 12-week program.
Here’s the best part of it: each workout is only about 12-15 minutes (you will definitely be able to do it in under 20 minutes). You do the workout for 3 days and then you have a rest day.
So why exactly is Nia Shanks your (S)Hero?
Because she “gets it.” She understands that there is a life outside of the gym. Because she wants me to be a mom, but also to be a happy, healthy and thriving mama.
She creates products and information that matter. And she understands that there is no substitute for real food, but also that women need to stop beating themselves up for the “ooopsies.”
Because she created a workout program that is allowing me to work on healing my back, TFL, and piriformis while still doing something. And because she is….Nia Shanks.
Are those enough reasons?
Xox,
SKH
You will heal. I will help.
Nia IS frickin’ amazing!
